ATTRACTIVE FEATURES
Attractive Features was set up by film-editor Chris Swanton with the express purpose of making this film version of Kafka’s iconic novella. Pearl DME was established by award-winning visual effects director William Rockall together with visual effects designer and producer Simon Hodgkiss.
The approach of the project was always to remain as faithful to the original story as the transposition from the written word to the screen would allow, attempting to capture not only the touching sadness of Gregor’s situation but also the rich vein of humour and the sense of the bizarre that runs through the novella. The figures that enter into the Samsa household betray Kafka’s love of Dickens, of Jewish theatre and of the emerging art of the silent movie.
The Centenary Edition companion paperback written by Chris Swanton to accompany the film contains a new translation and comprehensive notes on the text. Together, the main feature Metamorphosis, the accompanying documentary Behind the Scenes and the companion paperback will prove an indispensable guide to students and teachers of Franz Kafka and The Metamorphosis. See the Companion Book page for full details.
